Dual monitor option.
This is an ok option for a dual monitor. The picture is good quality using a USB-C cable. I like the option of being able to just use one cable.The monitors left side clamps on to your laptops screen and has a support peg in the back. One thing you need to do is make sure the top support is out on the top of your laptops screen or else it will just slide down it.I actually don’t like that it mounts to the laptop. I like to have my second monitors on the left side and this one is not reversable. You are also limited to where the monitor can go and at what angle it is at.The mounting part is just added bulk and weight for something that should be portable and light. I find the kickstand displays work much better for my needs.It does come with a carrying case too which has a pouch you can store the different cable options.I have been using this with my work laptop and laptop bag. It takes up a lot of room in the bag and sometimes I just have to carry it separately. For me, this is too bulky and not the best option for my uses.

Lightweight, portable dual monitor setup
First off, I have nothing but good things to say about this extendable, portable 14″ monitor. The monitor itself is fairly light weight but well built. It has an adjustable strong spring loaded back to fit different sized monitors to latch onto. This area that attaches to your laptop does have rubber to protect your laptop from being scratched/ damaged. There is also an adjustable stand at the back of the monitor to provide additional stability as well as it can act as a single leg to stand up if you want to use it on an ipad/ tablet. This option isn’t the most stable as the design is not built for this but it works just fine!The back of the monitor has 3 usb inputs and it comes with 3 different cable options listed below in the accessories.There is only one dial on the monitor that acts as the power on/off button, you press the dial to adjust the monitor settings (brightness, contract, backlight, sharpness, eco mode, saturation, hue, color temp, language, transparency, timer, aspect ration, auto powerdown, volume).- Comes with a carrying case for the monitor, comes in a secure bag to protect the monitor as well as a velcro pocket in the front for carrying the cables- 3 different cables: usb to HCMI, usb to usb c, and usb c to usbThe one con I have is that there is no speaker, considering the price. You need to ensure you change the speaker option to your actual computer.I did get this to travel to be more productive while working remotely.

Nicer display than the one that came with my laptop.
Compared to my laptop and even one of my old monitors the image quality is better. Darks are darker and colours pop more. The resolution is also better than on my laptop so it makes me want to use this monitor as the primary monitor when working away from my desk.I tested it with a Windows laptop, Mac Mini and even a Chromebook and it worked with all three. It doesn’t need to be clipped onto a laptop to work so it could be used as a small stand alone monitor. The kickstand really expects it to be on a laptop so when it’s placed on a desk it’s a bit unstable. Still it will work in a pinch.The cables, while good quality, seem a little finicky, you have to connect them just right or it wont work. For example the USB-C one seems to need to be inserted with the L-shaped end in the monitor and the other end in the laptop. Both connectors are quite tight fighting in the USB-C port on all the devices I tried it with so you need to make sure it clicks into place or you get no power or a “no signal” error. Usually just unplugging the cable and plugging it in again with a click works fine. The HDMI cable seemed to work more reliably but it necessitates using 2 cables, HDMI and power.The monitor comes with a really nice carrying case and folds up to be quite thin and light. It doesn’t zip up but it fits snugly.If you need a second monitor on the go this one is easy and convenient to carry around with you. If you want to buy someone this as a gift there is a lot of style and nice design on show so I think anyone who receives this as a gift would be impressed.

Nice screen but not really usable without laptop
The screen itself is pretty nice quality, the design of the attachment is pretty sturdy… I did find there was a bit of sag when attached to a 14 inch laptop screen, but no sag when attached to a 15.6 inch screen.I am a little disappointed that the hinge doesnt open all the way around to use the device as a stand alone screen… it will look quite silly. It only opens 180 degrees and locks flat… would be a lot more multifunctional that way.

Great additional to work space
It’s always great to have 2 screens at the office and make work easier. So when I felt working from home was more trouble with only my laptop screen I looked for dual screen option. I was extremely happy with this purchase. Great packaging and product. Works great and easy to set up.

Excellent picture and build quality that makes a dual-monitor setup practical for travelling
I had no idea these kind of portable monitors existed, and am extremely impressed with this 14″ portable monitor from Maxfree. It does just about everything right from a build quality, picture quality and portability perspective.The Maxfree S1 is a 14″ fold-out monitor that is made to attach to a laptop to provide a second monitor. In short, it absolutely excels at doing this! The monitor comes in a protective, rubber carrying bag that has a Velcro pocket in the front to hold the cables. The kit comes with the monitor, carrying bag, a USB-C to HDMI cable, USB-C to USB-A cable and USB-C to USB-C (90 degrees) cable. It does not come with a power adaptor and requires 5V/2A USB power.The monitor folds out from the laptop attachment bracket. The laptop attachment is spring-loaded, which means you need to pull the attachment apart against the spring tension to mount it to the laptop monitor. It is a strong spring and was not easy to get it to attach to my Acer Nitro’s 17″ screen. There is a fold out at the top to help keep the Maxfree monitor aligned with the laptop screen. The attachment has rubber pads all around to protect the laptop from being scratched by it. It does fit my Acer’s 17″ screen, and easily fits my work Lenovo’s 15.6″ screen. There is also an extending leg on the attachment to help prop up the laptop’s screen if the weight of the Maxfree is too much. However the leg is not really long enough to hold my Acer’s 17″ screen at 90 degree vertical so it is leaned back a bit. My Acer’s screen is able to handle the weight of the much smaller 14″ Maxfree so it is not an issue.I used the USB-C to HDMI cable since my Acer does not support Displayport over USB-C. I used the other USB cable to power up the monitor. It starts up in a few seconds to a few crisp, clean 1080p image. Windows detected the monitor instantly and it just worked right away. There are lots of options in the menu to configure the picture quality, including some presets like Game and Movie. I find the colors really pop, even more than my Acer’s monitor. It really looks nice, and despite the size difference to the Acer’s 17″, the text is clear and easily readable. This really, truly provides a second monitor for laptops, in a very well designed format. The monitor also has built-in speakers that Windows detected automatically. They are very clear but lack any kind of bass. I use headphones with my laptop so that is not an issue.One bonus feature that I tested is that the monitor even works with my Nintendo Switch! I used the USB-C to USB-C cable to connect the Maxfree to the Nintendo Switch, and used the other USB cable to power it via a USB adaptor. It worked instantly and can provide a larger screen than that of the Switch while travelling.I cannot wait to travel with this portable monitor. When you are used to having at least 2 screens for your work setup, you really miss that setup when travelling. The Maxfree S1 allows you to bring that efficiency and productivity on the go. I highly recommend it!
